Announcement

I really have no easy way to go about saying this, so I'll just say it:

After much careful consideration during the last while, I've come to the realization that it's time to take some serious time away from blogging, though I will still be reading and occasionally commenting.

There... I've said it.

It seems that the constant delving into various brain-melting materials is taking a toll that I cannot afford to pay. As I dig deeper and deeper into the bowels of the internet in search of targets, it seems other considerations have been losing importance, though they should not be. I've also noticed that I'm quite a bit more spacy in my personal life than I have ever been... or am comfortable with, for that matter. Such is the price we often pay for giving our undivided attention to anything. Balance must be maintained, but it comes with a price.

There are some things in life more important than throwing poo, and it is those things on which I need to concentrate now before the price of my determination becomes greater on a personal level than is safe to pay. I feel I must apologize to everyone for this, yet I hope you, dear readers, can understand. Hopefully I can pick this up again in a month or two, but that is something I won't know until it happens.

I'd like to thank everyone for the past six months. I have truly enjoyed all of this.

Special thanks goes out to the following:

Orac: Without stumbling across your stuff completely by accident during my lurker days, I probably would never have started blogging at all (I like the new template, by the way).

PZ: For infinitely boosting my readership during the whole Hovind Project, and for your tireless dedication to integrity in science (and for the squid porn).

Coturnix, Hallq and Daniel Morgan: For the link-love and your dedication to rational thought.

Carmel: For being one of the best Christians I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Judy Wyatt: For being the first to suggest the template change which I so badly needed.

Luna: For your entertaining comments (and for being my first UK reader).

Joolya and Jake: For being, by far, my two favorite feminists.

Talyn: for the most interesting email conversation I think I've ever had (and for the never-ending reading list).

Additional thanks goes out to the following (in no particular order): Gary Hurd, Tara Mobley, King Spirula, Coragyps, Xiangtao, Beajerry, BronzeDog, Banana Slug, Kele, RPM, Aero, The Squire, Lord Runolfr, EoR, Mapo, Did, Plittle, Skeptico and the UTI Gang... plus any that I might have skipped by accident (and any lurkers who might read but never say a word). Every one of you has contributed to making this a memorable and worthwhile experience.

Finally, a very special thank you goes out to Jen: Without your insight, I might never have known how badly I needed a break from all of this. You have my eternal gratitude (as if you didn't already). The ability to set your feelings aside and tell it like it is, even when painful, places you far above the average mortal.

For anyone interested, I will still be available via email (thepooflingerATgmailDOTcom) for conversations or just to say hello.

Once again, I apologize for my sudden departure from blogging but it is, I assure you, necessary. Thank you for the experience and take care of yourselves.

We all need a break every once in awhile. Especially when we focus on something so much. Sometimes it makes us appreciate it more when we get back to it. But thanks for your comment.

I'm totally sincere when I say that actually meant a great deal to me, especially with all I've been through lately, so thanks. Don't be a total stranger though and disappear completely.

Wow! I understand completely. Everyone needs a break sometimes. Do not take the blog down, though, for severeal reasons:
- because your archives are valuable
- because spammers love to take over dead blogs (that already have many links to it)
- you will want to write something sometimes - no need to write daily.

You'll be back. Everybody does come back eventually. Stay in touch - post a comment sometimes.

I will miss reading your stuff, Matt. Hope you still swing by CT and DT every now and again. I can sympathize with the issue of priorities and balance. It hits us all at times. Thanks for helping me get my blog started last month, and I hope this won't be the last we all hear from you. Thanks for having the courage to take on Hovind and the "Cruncher". And I do mean...courage. Take care.

I feel special...

But I digress. I'll keep an eye on the place. If it starts getting spammy like coturnix is worried about, I'll drop a notice or something.

We'll miss you!

Although I'll miss your poo-flinging, I think this break is much deserved. You've gone into territory that is terrifying and reported back to us the complete idiocy found there. Take the time to focus on the things that are really important in your life. We'll all still be here whenever you feel up to coming back.

And keep the blog up, if only for the archives. They're a great read, and I, for one, would love to be able to re-read them occasionally.

I'll try and keep in touch.

I have really enjoyed this blog, but I can understand the time concern. What I find remarkable is your ability to wade through all that poo that I had to put up with through my childhood. Hats off to you.

I've been a lurker here ever since you started reviewing the Hovind videos, and I just wanted to say thanks for all of the good posts that you've put up. I even went through and read your archives. I can certainly understand your taking a break. On my own website, I made I conscious effort to limit the amount of time I spend on this topic ever since my wife said I was becoming obsessed, and I wasn't posting nearly as much as you.

You shall be sorely missed dear poo-warrior. May your future shots ring true and hit their targets with the soft sick 'thwack' of success.

I will miss the flying feces, but I can understand the need to take a breather.
Hopefully you'll be back at some point, but either way I've enjoyed your site immensely (and learned a bit while I was here as well).
Thanks and enjoy the break.

A shame, but a necessary move. Pooflinger was one of the spurs for me to start blogging to at least try and provide some balance to the infinite stupidities promoted on the net.

Woah what happened? I was off the net for what seemed like a few days and your page has changed.... Gotta admit I was accostomed to the black, it seemed less formal. Somehow a certain understated sence of corruption seemed to leak from it. Oh well let us know when you have some poo for us, hope the time you find is used well.

Thanks for all the work you've done. I found much in your writing to shore up my own thingking with. It was very good getting to know you through your blog. I wish you good fortune, much happiness for yourself all those you love and much fun to stich it all together with.

Don't worry. Through my counseling (or copious supply of booze) he'll be back to good in no time. Either that or I will be forced to bury him in a mound of his own poo.

Greetings froms Brisbane, Australia
(Thats right you went international dude !!)
Understandable but for my own selfish reasons sorry to hear
I have only been a regular reader and lurker for a few weeks but went through alot of the archive wich was some good shit and I'll miss your stop on my regular rounds. Your site reminded me of a colourful friend of mine who used to look people straight in the eye when they were being stupid and say
"You need shot with a ball of your own shit"
Have a good break

It's a shame that you're stopping.

It's blogs like yours that inspired me to write again after a long time off.

Very much enjoyed yours over the past few weeks.

If I can start again, you will too.

Saving up your poo will just lead to concentrated poo.
Maybe that's the best kind of pooflinging.

I understand and fully support your need to preserve your sanity. The Internet's an insatiable beast that will wear your flinging arm right off and still ask for more.

Still, the occasional splatter is cathartic, right? Can we still hope for a well flung handful, say, every month or two?

I know I'm dragging along way behind the curve, here, but I really do need to say something.

First, I am deeply honoured to have had specific mention here. I am delighted to have been able to post something of value to you.

Second, you know, this decision is understandable in the extreme; I confess to wondering where you had found the time for the multitudinous wonderful posts in the past. But sometimes Real Life does demand attention to itself. It is how we come to be in a position to post interesting things later, if nothing else....

Having said that, we'll miss you. I'll miss you. And I'll be keeping an eye out for if/when you come back, believe me.
